1. Entry Criteria

1.1 Entrants must be at least 18 years old on the date of the race
1.2  Should you need to withdraw from the event please inform the Transylvanian Bear Race team immediately via the contact page. Withdrawals up to 8 weeks prior to race day are eligible for a 70% refund. Withdrawals after that time will not be refunded for any reason as all costs will have been incurred by that stage and your team will not be replaced. There are no deferrals or transfers to alternative or later events.
1.3 Runners must attend the Registration and Safety Brief
1.4 Re-sale of entries is prohibited

2. Course

2.1 The course is fully marked
2.2 Runners must follow the marked course at all times
2.3 We may be required to amend the course subject to weather conditions. Any changes will be explained in detail during the race Safety Brief

3. Checkpoints

3.1 There will be five fully stocked checkpoints on the course
3.2 Runners must check in at all checkpoints. Do not leave the checkpoints without ensuring your race number has been recorded

4. Medical

4.1 The nearest location of definitive medical care is the Spitalul Municipal Sighisoara
4.2 A dedicated medical vehicle will patrol the course throughout the event

5. Mandatory Equipment

5.1 Runners must present the following Mandatory Equipment at Registration, the Start Line and the Finish Line:
Waterproof jacket
Head torch
Water bottle (minimum 1 litre capacity)
One waterproof map case (maps will be issued at Registration)
There will be kit inspections throughout the race; runners who fail to comply with the kit inspections will be disqualified

6. Timing / Cut offs

6.1 The clock begins when the whistle goes at the start and finishes when runners cross the finish line
6.2 Runners must complete the Ultra in under 12 hours. There is no cut-off for the marathon

7. Runner responsibilities

7.1 Runners must know the rules and follow them
7.2 Participants must offer assistance in case of emergency
7.3 Littering of any kind will result in immediate disqualification. We have been given the privilege of racing through a pristine landscape. Littering will threaten our use of it in years to come
7.4 Participants compete in this event entirely at their own risk, including but not limited to road crossings, river crossings, and all other hazards of the trail.
7.5 Runners must sign the event disclaimer at Registration. Participants who have not signed the waiver will not be allowed to start the race

8. Protests

8.1 Protests must be submitted in writing to the Race Committee within an hour of finishing the race
8.2 Protests must include:
Time and location
Race number and signatures of the runner submitting the protest
Race number of the runner the protest is against
The reason for the protest
Witness names and race numbers where possible
8.3 Protests that do not satisfy the criteria outlined in rule 8.2 will not be considered
8.4 The protest will be reviewed by the Race Committee and a decision communicated to those involved as soon as possible
8.5 The Race Committee reserve the right to use "common sense" to take decisions about situations that aren't clear in the rules
8.6 The Race Committee's decision is final

9. Safety

9.1 Runners withdrawing from the event must hand in their race number at the nearest checkpoint
9.2 Event staff may prevent a runner from continuing if they are judged to be unable to safely complete the race

10. Disqualification

10.1 Failure to follow the rules will lead to disqualification

11. Media and Sponsor exposure

11.1 Race numbers are not to be modified in any way and must be worn at all times
11.2 Participants give the organisers the right to use pictures and film material taken during the race, to be used free of rights in marketing, press material, internet, television and film

12. Acceptance of the Rules

By entering the race each runner accepts the rules in full.

All images and rights from the event are reserved. All unauthorised commercial use of images will be legally addressed
